Genma Saotome is Ranma's father and another victim of the Jusenkyo source. Indeed when Genma is splash with cold water he becomes a giant panda. However he doesn't seem to mind it very much and uses wooden boards to espress what he can not say.
Genma is very talented when it comes to martial arts but his cowardice and laziness creates the fact that we don't see him in combat very often. He was taught by Happosai and today he is still afraid of his master.
Mr Saotome is ready to trade anything for food or posesion such as his son which he will fiancee two times to two different women without consulting Ranma first. Like Soun Tendo Genma is very sensitive and cries a lot. He spend most of his time in the Tendo's house playing with Soun a game named "Go".
Dr. Tofu employed him to be his secretary, his house cleaner and much more. But Genma being under the form of a panda most of the time he is not able to complete what he is supposed to do. Dr. Tofu however doesn't seem to mind it much.
